Last year, 46 companies and 177 CUNY college students participated in the first WiTNY Winternship program, a paid, three-week, mini-internship experience during the January academic recess. Together, we changed many lives and built a deeper bench of tech talent—in just three weeks.
This year, we want to double our numbers.

What is a Winternship?
A paid, three-week, mini-internship for first and second-year women at CUNY during their January academic recess. Applications are now open. Placements will be announced in late November.
Why are Winternships valuable?
Winternships can be the first open door for women interested in exploring tech careers. This immersive work experience exposes students to job opportunities in tech and computing while helping them build a strong resume and professional network. At the same time, it gives companies an edge in recruiting top talent.
How is the Winternship program structured?
WiTNY Winterns are placed at companies as a team of five. With guidance and support from the WiTNY team, each company designs its own program to immerse the students in their business. Winternship programs often include meetings with executives, job shadowing opportunities, brown bag lunch sessions, and site visits. In addition, each company identifies a “group project” that the students work together on during their three-week Winternship experience. At the end, students “pitch” their proposed solutions to the leadership team.
In 2018, 177 students and 46 companies participated in WiTNY’s Winternship program. The companies included Verizon, Warby Parker, Mastercard, Turner Broadcasting, AppNexus, Citi Ventures, Dow Jones, Bitly, and Blackstone, among others. In 2019, our goal is to double those numbers and offer a number of “sponsored Winternships” for startups and nonprofit organizations that would like to host a group of Winterns.
I'm a computer science major. Should I consider a Winternship?
Yes. Besides expanding your technology capabilities, a Wintership will build your professional network and offer you exposure to a variety of career options.
I'm NOT a computer science major. Should I consider a Winternship?
Yes. All companies pose a group project for five WiTNY Winterns to solve together, so we’re always looking for women with a variety of skills, experiences, and interests in tech.
